passing through the office from different sources and it is

essential that, in addition to prompt dealing with malls,cor-

rect accounts of this should be kept,more especially as audia

on the spot cannot be frequent.

17. The Postmaster at present no doubt

has too much work on his hands, and if he could be relieved

of the account keeping and also have a clerk whose duty it was

to deal with the Poste Restante, it would considerably relieve

him.

The Senior Clerk's work is of such

varying nature that when he is at one class of work he is con-

stantly being interrupted to attend to some other class of

work with the result that little of it is well done.

19. The Senior Clerk should be relieved

of his duties as regards parcels,mails and registered letters -

His remaining duties would then consist of dealing with all

Money Order transactions and unpaid correspondence, and in ad-

dition I would suggest that he keep the accounts.

20. It might also be possible to relieve

him of dealing with unpaid correspondence, in which case he

would have only to deal with Money Orders and the accounts

and assist in closing contract mails and sorting,

21. Whether the present holder of the

post of Senior Clerk is competent to do this work is a ques-

tion to be considered. At present his Money Order Work is

untidily and inaccurately done, but it must be remembered

that
